Army to enhance security during the Commonwealth Games

The government has decided to rope in the army ensure foolproof security for the Commonwealth Games that followed in which was held in Delhi from October 3. Nearly 1,000 members of units special army may be deployed during the games.

Sources informed that the army personnel should be made on the premises by September 15. This measure will come into force just over a fortnight before the Games begin. Commonwealth Games 2010 are scheduled to begin on 3 October.

The personnel deployed to help provide technical assistance related to communication intra-force, maintenance of the jammers, the decoding signals suspect in addition to providing other logistical support. Outside the army, a team of the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) will also be deployed.

The Union Ministry had already sought help from the defense minister AK Antony to ensure that the army does not load the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee additional equipment provided by staff during the games.

On the security front, the army personnel would be binding and aid as a hand in maintaining the safety of various vital installations, which also includes top hotels and the village of games where the officials participation countries will stay with the players.

Nearly 175 companies (17,500 people) of the Central paramilitary forces, 3,000 commandos, 100 teams sabotage, 200 dogs and 15 squadrons of bomb disposal will be security for the Games.

Some of the places where the games take place includes 12 major stadiums, four non-competition venues such as hotels, six training sites and two other grounds.
